Botanic Garden
The Singapore Botanic Gardens, established in 1859, is an 82-hectare (202 acres) tropical garden located at the fringe of Orchard Road. It is the first and only tropical botanic garden in the world to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized in 2015.
The Gardens feature a wide variety of landscapes, from carefully curated ornamental gardens to a six-hectare patch of primary rainforest that predates modern Singapore. One of its most celebrated highlights is the National Orchid Garden, which showcases more than 1,000 orchid species and 2,000 hybrids. Other attractions include Swan Lake, the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden, and the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, which hosts regular outdoor concerts.
The Gardens play an important role in plant research, education, and conservation, while also serving as a popular leisure spot for locals and visitors. It attracts over 4 million people annually, making it one of the most visited botanic gardens in the world.
